Equipment & Tackle

Boat, Equipment, Gear

We'll be fishing out of a tournament-caliber 21’  StarCraft “Viper” that’s matched up with a powerful new 300 HP 4 stroke Mercury ProXS .

This fiberglass boat was specially designed to be used by professional anglers on the Great Lakes,  which are similar to the big water conditions found at San Luis. Having a boat that’s built to safely handle harsh conditions, while also possessing the speed to get between fishing spots quickly, is a perfect blend for our trips.

The “ Viper” is also set up with a full Bimini cover,  2 Lowrance “Carbon” sonars, a Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 hp  “ kicker”  trolling motor, 2 Scotty Downriggers, and a 105 lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor.

I’ve added many of these features so we’re able to fish just about any way we want- whether it’s casting,  jigging, or trolling.

I carry at least 8 to 10 poles, all spooled with a 20 lb test monofilament line on Acura, Daiwa, and Penn reels. Most of the rods are 8 1/2’ to 9’ Ugly Sticks. These setups have been proven performers for catching big stripers.

A full onboard complement of lures, accessories, and special fishing equipment also means that you don’t need to bring any of your tackle.

Everything we’ll be fishing has been tested and proven capable of handling a big striper when that hard strike occurs

What to Bring

There's no need to bring much except your fishing license (age 16 and over), camera, hat, food drinks, and some sunscreen. A small to medium-sized ice chest is good, too

No alcohol is allowed on board
