A Lifetime of Experience
Welcome to my site! My name is Roger George. I am a Central California trophy striper angler and, like many of you, I've fished since I could hold a pole. I have landed and released thousands of stripers over the years, and am known for catching a record 50.3lb monster in 1998.
Since 2011, I have been a weekly fishing Columnist for the Fresno Bee with “Roger’s Remarks”. Whether writing, speaking, or guiding, I continue to draw upon my experience as the 1976 U.S. Olympic Decathlon Team Alternate with Bruce Jenner.

San Luis Reservoir
San Luis Reservoir is a world class striper anglers dream that sits 15 miles West of Los Banos in Central California . The largest off- river reservoir in the world, San Luis was built in 1964 and holds 2.1 million acre feet of water. The deep lake sits in a pass between San Jose and the Central Valley fed by the California aqueduct that that brings water down from Stockton and the Delta.
The lake is known for its large population of striped bass, but its main claim to fame has been the consistent catches of huge stripers year round. The lake has accounted for multiple world records over the last 40 years, making it a true bucket list destination for serious striper anglers. Windy conditions are the trademark of San Luis, so good planning is essential . Anglers use bait, jigs, troll, cast and downrig for the big fish.
Exciting news! In August, 2021 I added Shaver Lake, a renowned Kokanee salmon and trophy trout fishing lake to my schedule. Located just 40 miles north of Fresno, CA , Shaver lake is an iconic fishing destination surrounded by beautiful scenic mountains. The combination of the charm of the Sierra mountains, moderate summer temperatures, and a large population of Kokanee, trout, golden trout, brown trout and smallmouth bass make the lake a fishermans dream . The lake's many charms draws anglers and visitors from all over the country
Since I’ve been chasing trophy-sized stripers all my life, it’s been key to have the best equipment possible to get the job done.
First off, we will be fishing in a 21' Fiberglass Starcraft Viper that’s powered by a new Mercury 300 HP Pro XS V8 outboard.
This powerhouse is complimented by a Mercury 9.9 Pro XS kicker and the bow is outfitted with a 107lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor. The boat is also outfitted with a Bimini top for your comfort.
I use two Lowrance Carbon sonar units - one 12” and one 9” - to find the fish. My reels are top of the line Penn, Acuna, and Diana, matched with Ugly Stik and Lamiglas rods.
This powerful combination of boat, motors, sonar and tackle is designed to give you a great fishing experience.
